Informational meeting Monday, Feb. 2
The Greene County High School is offering after-school tutoring for high school students. The two separate tutoring sessions will focus on reading and math skills. This opportunity is being offered at no cost to students. The focus will be on strengthening skills so students can be more successful in their high school courses.
A parental information session will be held Monday, Feb. 2, from 5:30 to 6 pm to answer questions and address concerns. Students are encouraged to attend this meeting with their parents.
Based on results of the Iowa Assessments and the STAR assessment, as well as current grades in reading and math classes, letters were sent to parents of 9th and 10th grade students who were recommended for tutoring. School district policy states that any student who scores below the 40th percentile in reading or math on the Iowa Assessments should be recommended for tutoring. This was one of the three factors used to make recommendations. Although letters were sent home to 9th and 10th grade students, the tutoring is open to any high school student who would like to strengthen his or her math or reading skills.
Sessions will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 pm starting Feb. 10. Students who live in Grand Junction, Rippey, or Dana will ride the bus to the Greene County Intermediate building and will receive tutoring services there. For those attending tutoring at the Greene County High School, transportation will be provided to Scranton afterwards if needed. Snacks will be provided during tutoring.
